USA Today: USS Carl Vinson Infographic

With media outlets all over America reporting about the 2011 Quicken Loans Carrier Classic, sports fans nationwide have become aware of this huge transformative event that celebrates our Veterans - while showcasing the powerhouse matchup of the MSU Spartans vs. the Tar Heels of UNC.

While some critics argue that the use of the USS Carl Vinson for this rematch of the 2009 NCAA national championship is insensitive (due to the ships use to carry Osama bin Laden to a sea burial), Akbar Ahmed, chair of the Islamic Studies at American University, states that the ship was nothing more than a medium of transportation for bin Laden’s body.

The 7,500 seat stadium built on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson will accommodate 2,000 San Diego Sailors, wounded service members who received a special invite, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, President Barack Obama, and other selected guests.

Furthermore, an infographic on the USA Today sports site illustrates a nicely detailed mock up of how the USS Carl Vinson will look on game day (Veterans Day) when the transformation is finally complete.

And here is another cool infographic from the Detroit Free Press.
